1987 Range Rover Vogue 3.5 EFi Sunseeker

Offered for sale is this unique 1987 Range Rover Vogue 3.5 EFi with rare Sunseeker ‘Long’ (full-length) electric folding sunroof.

Land Rover introduced several significant improvements to the Range Rover for the 1987 Model Year. Electronic fuel injection was standardised on the four-door models, horizontal slats replaced the vertical design of the front grill, the fuel filler had a new opening flap, and the top of the range Vogue sported a front spoiler with integrated driving lights. Inside was a new two-spoke steering wheel, integrated headrests to the rear seats and additional dashboard warning lights.

The accompanying BMIHT certificate shows this Range Rover was despatched from Land Rover on the 18th June 1987 to UK dealers Bradfields Garage Ltd. of Cockfosters with the standard 5-speed manual transmission. Manual Range Rovers of this era, particularly Vogues, are quite scarce as most buyers opted for the optional automatic gearbox. Finished in metallic Cypress Green, options included air-conditioning (currently not operational) and a tow pack. The very rare Sunseeker Phoenix Long electric folding sunroof was installed shortly after delivery, adding an exciting new dimension to the car. In addition, Vogue SE grey leather seats were installed in 2000.

Registered D120 PVS on the thirteenth of July 1987 to Cope Management (fleet managers of London accountants Price Waterhouse) the new Range Rover was for the exclusive use of a senior PW partner who, on his retirement in 1993, acquired the car from the firm and continued to enjoy UK and continental touring for a further twenty-five years.

Having benefitted from long-term ownership, this attractive Range Rover comes with a detailed history file running to an incredible two-hundred and eighty pages. No less than thirty MOT certificates are present along with an almost full set of tax discs reaching back to 1988. Invoices on file confirm the car was serviced exclusively by Land Rover main dealers Southern Counties (now Harwoods) until 1997 when servicing passed to specialist garages. The file also includes a summary of the original owner’s tenure with detailed timeline. The original manuals pouch is present and contains owner’s handbook, JVC stereo instructions and wiring diagram.

The current owner acquired the car in 2018 ending a remarkable custodianship of over thirty years and close to 170,000 miles. Since his purchase, nearly £8,000 has been spent improving the car further.
