This remarkably well-preserved example was ordered new from Lex Mead of Manchester on the 8th October 1979 in Caribbean Blue over Shell Grey with Shell Grey twin fine lines. Connolly VM3244 Light Blue hide was chosen for the interior along with Mountain Blue carpets, lambswool rugs and footstools. The car was also ordered with the rare and desirable option of front seat headrests.

A Delivery Note on file states the car was first registered BVH 300V and delivered on the 1st April 1980 to its first owner, a Mr. E. Mitchell of Halifax.

The original Rolls-Royce Service Schedule book contains service stamps from Lex Greenwood’s & Hoffmans of Halifax until 1983 when maintenance passed to Leeds based Ross Bros (Ben Rhydding) Ltd. whose stickers are still in place in the front and rear screens.

Then, in August 1983 the car was purchased by Mr. G. Hill of Pudsey who went on to own the car for the next thirty years. Mr. Hill clearly treasured the car and used it very sparingly, averaging fewer than 500 miles per year.

From 1984, Pudsey-based Shadow Vehicle Services (SVS) went on to maintain this Shadow II for the next thirty-four years with many of their invoices present in the history file. Of note, there is also an entry in the service book declaring a new speedometer was fitted by SVS in May 1986 at 8,759 miles. The (replacement) odometer currently shows 13,356 miles so the car has covered just over 22,000 miles which shows in the lack of wear and tear often found on more well-travelled examples.

In 2014 the Silver Shadow was sold to another customer of SVS, the Rev A. Brown, of Scarborough and again was driven infrequently, covering less than 300 miles in his four years of ownership. In 2015 the engine was fully rebuilt by SVS, work included new cylinder liners and a refurbishment of the cylinder heads with new seals and gaskets wherever required.

In 2018 the car was purchased by another SVS client from whom we purchased it in 2019 before it joined the collection of the last owner. The collection is being reduced so this exceptional car is available once more.

The car retains all its original books including hardback Owner’s Handbook and softback Supplement Owner’s Handbook, a stamped Rolls-Royce Service Schedule book, a Customer Information booklet, Warranty card, Sales & Service handbook and various period sales and instructional leaflets.

Also present is a large history file containing copies of the original order form, specification sheets, delivery note and build sheets that run to some fifty-two pages. In addition, twenty-six MOT certificates are present which chart the cars mileage over the years along with many maintenance invoices. A spare set of keys are also present, and the original small and large toolkits are in place in the boot. Fittingly the Shadow also retains its original BVH 300V registration number.

Exceptional Silver Shadows are very scarce and having covered only 22,000 miles from new is a rare opportunity to acquire a collector-grade example.
