Launched in 1975, the Pininfarina-designed 308 GTB and GTS were the natural successors to the Dino 246 GT and GTS. The new cars boasted a more powerful 3 litre, 4-cam V8 engine which allowed near 150 mph performance.

In 1980, in response to more stringent emissions requirements Ferrari replaced the classis Weber carburettors with fuel injection which resulted in a significant decrease in power. Therefore, collectors prize earlier versions with the more powerful carburettor engines.

Chassis 27965 is a carburettor 308 GTS supplied new via UK Ferrari importer Maranello Concessionaires. A letter on file dated 2nd November 1978 from MC Sales Director Sean Bealey confirms the car was ordered with optional air conditioning, 7.4 inch wide wheels and a deep front spoiler and was first registered on the 23rd August 1979.

The car was acquired in July 1985 by a Mr. Glen Clove of Harrow and by July 1987 was registered to Florence Pettet, the wife of Terry Pettet a co-director of Scheldt & Pettet, Lancia Specialists based in South Harrow.

Scheldt & Petter naturally serviced the Ferrari and went on to own the car for over twenty-three years before it was purchased by a Mr. James Pawson of Gloucester in 2010.

Thomas Faulkener of Woodbridge owned the Ferrari between June 2012 and July 2015 when it was sold via Simon Furlonger to the current owner with a documented 55,000 miles showing on the odometer.

Since then the 308 has received over £13,000 of expenditure and has been maintained by Ferrari specialists QV London. New rear brake discs were fitted in 2018 and a new fuel pump in 2020. In May 2022 all four carburettors were stripped and rebuilt and in April 2023 the car received an oil and filter service and the all-important cambelt change.

Finished in classic Rosso Corsa with crema leather trim, this well-maintained 308 GTS is in fine order and currently shows only 59,135 miles. The history file contains numerous invoices and MOT certificates dating from 1982 which chart the mileage to date.

This excellent example is freshly serviced, has an MOT until April 2024, is HPI clear with documented history and includes original jack, jack bag, toolroll with Ferrari branded tools, owner’s handbooks, hardtop bag and spare keys.
