The Morgan V6 Roadster replaced the original Plus 8 once the old Rover V8 engine was discontinued. The V6 thus became the company’s most powerful model based on the classic steel chassis. The new engine was a remapped, all-aluminium Ford 2,967 cc Duratec V6 unit from the Mondeo ST220 and was mated to a Jaguar 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Roadster Lightweight was conceived as a road legal race car with heavy items such as spare wheel and bumpers removed and aero screens replacing the full-width windscreen.
Our V6 Roadster is chassis 9 of 100 Lightweight Limited Editions and is, we believe one of only two finished in Aston Martin Green over Silver wings.
The car was first registered on the 18th September 2008 to Mr. Richard Smith of Aberdeen and was later acquired by Mr. Nigel Perkins of Piddington, Northampton in December 2009.
In March 2010 Morgan specialists Simmonds of Malvern retrimmed the dashboard and fitted new green leather door cards with elasticated pockets along with a MIG clock (with stopwatch) for the dashboard and a 3-zip tonneau cover. Cibie spot lights were also supplied and fitted.
The car features side-exit exhausts, genuine Morgan alloy wheels and a removable Aston Martin Green carbon-fibre hardtop. Other road items include classic green leather bucket seats, full-width windscreen, three windscreen wipers and green carpets.
Race items include rain light, external power shut off, front and rear tow-straps, four-point harnesses (out of date), Sparco steering wheel and rollover bar.
In June 2010 the car was purchased by Mr. Barrie West of Hereford. In a letter on file, Mr. West agreed to allow the car to take part in the 2011 Silverstone Classic Celebrity Race Challenge in aid of the Cancer Research Bobby Moore Fund. Importantly, he asked the organisers to look after the car as ‘it’s a track virgin’ which suggests the car had not been raced or taken part in a track day prior.
Mr. West went on to own the Roadster for twelve years and was maintained by Morgan specialist Richard Thorne, Silent Motors and Broad Oak Garage, Hereford.
A new rain light was fitted in 2011 and two new door mirrors in 2014. In 2019 a new dual mass flywheel and clutch kit was installed plus a new battery.
The current owner purchased the car via Richard Thorne in April 2022 after recommissioning from a period in storage. Unfortunately he has not found the time to enjoy the Roadster properly and the car is now reluctantly offered for sale.
The Roadster comes with removable side-screens with handled canvas storage bags, aero-screens and storage bag, tonneau cover, race seat (out of date), four spare genuine Morgan alloy wheels shod with semi-slick race tyres, spare keys and jack.
A 2022 Graham Edwards GTX3 covered trailer with winch and awning is also available by separate negotiation or can be sold as a package with the car.
This rare Morgan Roadster Lightweight Limited Edition is particularly attractive in Aston Martin Green and with only 18,000 miles is in great shape, on the button and ready to be enjoyed.
