Launched in 2012 the L405 was the fourth generation Range Rover and continued the tradition of class-winning off-roading capabilities combined with excellent road manners and delivered in a luxurious and stylish package.

The new car was a significant advancement over the outgoing model. The most remarkable aspect being the new all-aluminium monocoque body which weighed a whole 420kg less than the previous L322.

The 5.0 litre petrol supercharged version was naturally the enthusiast’s choice being the most powerful iteration with well over 500 bhp on tap. This powerhouse was mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox selectable from the centre console or steering column mounted paddles. The four-wheel drive system split torque equally to the front and rear, and naturally featured a transfer box with high and low range ratios.

In range topping Autobiogaphy guise, the interior trim was of limousine standard and when mated to the 5.0 Litre Supercharged engine resulted in a devastatingly fast luxury bruiser, equally at home in a muddy field or parked outside the Ritz.

Our Autobiography 5.0 Litre V8 Supercharged was registered 12th June 2019 and is quite special. Land Rover discontinued their classic Aintree Green colour in 2018 which was much lamented by enthusiasts. An Autocar reader said ‘The passing of Aintree Green marks the passing of my love for Land Rover. We have all lost an old friend, a gentleman in a brown warehouse coat that always knew where the half-inch brass screws were... ‘

However, fear not, the first owner of our car was clearly a gentleman of good taste and paid a not insubstantial premium (we believe circa £8,000) to have his new Range Rover specially finished in the classic Aintree Green by Land Rover SVO (Special Vehicle Operations), the factory department responsible for producing bespoke cars to specific customer requirements. Documents on file confirm the car was specified in ‘SVO Premium Palette Green’ (Aintree Green). Another tasteful feature is the lack of privacy glass.

The interior is finished in tan leather with restrained Piano black inserts to the centre console and doors cards. Other features include Diamond-turned 22-inch wheels (unique to the supercharged version) and 22-way electrically adjustable and massaging front seats trimmed in perforated semi-aniline leather. In the rear the ‘Executive Rear Seat’ option was specified which featured larger seats that electrically reclined further than the standard items, aircraft style. Additional equipment includes illuminated treadplates, puddle projection lights, reversing camera, traffic detection system and sliding panoramic glass roof and a SmarTrack Thatcham S5 tracker.

The current owner added the Range Rover to his extensive collection of high calibre cars in 2019 and has used it sparingly as comfortable motorway transport and for local weekend trips.

Our Autobiography 5.0 Litre Supercharged must be one of very few, or possibly the only example finished in Aintree Green to special order by Land Rover SVO. The car has been properly maintained and received a full 3 day ceramic coating in 2022 which lasts for three years and is consequently in excellent condition with only 39,000 miles showing and comes complete with two key fobs and owner’s handbooks and pouch.
